Sea Kayak Skills Development course at Paxos

This is an enjoyable sea kayaking, week-long combination of journeying around the stunning Paxos and Antipaxos islands’ coastlines and skills development opportunity. We aim to play with all boat handling skills as well as other elements of  British Canoeing Sea Kayak Awards in a variety of appropriate coastal environments. At the end of the week we will have explored and practiced all areas of the new British Canoeing Sea Kayak performance award, in a dream location, enjoying some spectacular scenery and amazing food along the way!

This coaching/journeying sea kayaking week schedule is more beneficial, enjoyable and developing for paddlers that have already started their sea kayaking pathway towards British Canoeing Sea Kayak performance award. Anyone holding a British Canoeing Explore or Discover award (or performing at the standard), having already attended a British Canoeing Sea Kayak training course looking for refreshing skills and gaining experience practicing, looking for developing, journeying paddling time or looking for working on specific skills of the syllabus, will find this sea kayaking experience interesting and rewarding.

Feel free to contact us and provide us with some information about you, in order to find out what would best meet your needs and expectations!

During the week we are based in beautiful apartments and we opt for one camping overnight that provides us with the opportunity to explore more of the islands’ beauties! This means that we spend a total of 7 nights staying in double occupancy apartments.

  • Day_1 – Meeting day:

We meet at the apartments in Gaios where our accommodation is arranged. We set our meeting for early evening in order to have time to get to know the team and discuss, prepare, plan and brief for the following days!

Note:  the success of this week’s schedule lies within a combination of getting the most out of what the weather conditions lay in front of us and meeting individual’s needs in sea kayak skills development. For this reason, the schedule of this week is a product of aiming to explore the entire length of the islands’ coastline as well as combining this with time practicing on the areas of development addressed along the way; in short, it is revised on day 1 and reasonably flexible thereafter

  • Day_2: Journeying, East – Northeast Paxos
On our first day out at sea, we head out exploring the East side of the island Paxos. We opt for a 0930 start paddling between Gaios and the villages Lakka, Loggos. This part of the island is welcoming with sheltered seas, many beautiful beaches, villages and great opportunities for warming up, exploring and refreshing techniques. A visit to the sea-side villages is part of our day. Our day finishes early afternoon, with a debrief while enjoying a refreshing drink and is completed with a delicious dinner in Gaios – either as a team or individually.
  • Day_3: East – Southeast Paxos
This day we head South from Gaios and towards Mogonisi. The day is offered for rescues and “wet drills” practice. In the early afternoon, parts of the theory topics will be refreshed during an hour’s session.
  • Day_4: South – Southwest Paxos
Looking for venues with sea states closer to the 3 star environment, this day will find us exploring and playing at the Southwest part of the island. The coastline is dramatic and starts preparing us for the spectacular scenery of the next days’ experiences. Another theory early afternoon session will complete our day.
  • Day_5: West Paxos
Exploring the west coastline of Paxos is definitely one of the highlights of this sea kayaking week. With approximately 11NM of the most spectacular stretches of coastline in Greece, this is a purely amazing journey for this fifth day! Along with our early start, it is today that we have the option to either pack for camping or choose for another night in our rooms. We opt for a camp by the way! When camping is the case, Antipaxos is going to be our final destination for this day!
  • Day_6: Antipaxos Circumnavigation
The west coast of Paxos is not the only highlight of this week, as you will find out when arriving to Antipaxos! Either starting from Mogonisi or packing our camping gear, this morning is going to find us preparing to explore Antipaxos. Coaching along the journey, practicing skills, and playing with whatever the sea offers, will be the case once again. In the afternoon we will be heading back to our rooms debriefing and reflecting on the day.
  • Day_7: Anywhere interesting!
We are looking for an interesting venue for this day. Interesting in a way so that it provides with the opportunities to demonstrate the set of awareness, seamanship, paddling skills and knowledge that completes the puzzle needed for a British Canoeing Sea Kayak Award performance award completion and nevertheless, a memorable week exploring stunning coastlines with your sea kayak in the Ionian sea, Greece!
